RETURN TO NIGERIA!
Update: thanks to all that helped me successfully raise $2,000 to match my funds for our travels to Nigeria. Our trip was full of productivity and we look forward to using our research to better enhance our A2S in-country programs.
In 2009, I traveled to Nigeria with Samaritan's Feet and some friends from Davidson College. As a result of that trip, members of the team incorporated Access to Success(A2S). A2S has a mission to better the lives of under-served youth through faith, education and sports (a2sfoundation.org) . This June 2011, A2S is going back to Nigeria, but in order to lead the A2S team back, I need to raise $2,000 to match my personal trip funds (for a total of $4,000). Any gift, great or small, is appreciated! A2S could not exist without the generous support of individual donors as we build our organization and look toward the future of a varied financial plan.

I first met Andrew Lovedale......when he was a star forward on the Davidson men’s basketball team, grabbing rebounds to help the Wildcats to the Elite Eight. But along with the rest of the Davidson community, I soon learned that there was so much more to Andrew. Born in Benin City, Nigeria, Andrew began quietly taking his teammates’ discarded practice gear and basketball shoes home each summer. Eventually, Andrew’s story energized the entire Davidson community, and in 2009 “Kicks from ‘Cats: The Andrew Lovedale Shoe Drive” raised 10,500 pairs of shoes and over $15,000 dollars to ship equipment to his hometown. I was a part of Andrew’s 2009 team that delivered the shoes and ran basketball clinics with youth that summer. That trip changed the course of my life, and along with Andrew and other 2009 team members, we incorporated Access to Success in September 2010 out of desire to continue Andrew’s work in Nigeria and, ultimately, share his philosophy of sports, faith and education with under-served youth everywhere. We are hoping to receive our 501(c)(3) status by the end of this summer! After executing the third annual “Kicks from ‘Cats” event, we will be returning to Nigeria this June in conjunction with our continued partners at Samaritan’s Feet. On this trip, we will conduct important research and begin to lay the groundwork for establishing long-term A2S operations in Benin City while delivering equipment, running basketball clinics, and working with youth on health and wellness. I need to raise $2,000 to match my personal funds for travel expenses, food and lodging during this inaugural A2S trip. The future service of A2S exists because of the support of friends like you. Please consider helping A2S establish our roots this summer and become an official A2S Friend by making a tax-deductible financial contribution. With your contribution you will receive the A2S quarterly newsletter and special event invitations in the future. For more information on A2S specific goals and objectives, visit a2sfoundation.org. In addition to pictures, videos and stories from our 2009 trip to Nigeria, you will find all the most up-to-date A2S news. |
